The test is designed to be challenging and can be very intimidating to students. With a lot of practice, skill-building, and understanding strategies to find the simplicity hidden in the complicated way the questions are worded, we can help students master this test and maximize their scores.
Each student has different needs with regard to test prep. The most important aspect is getting an early start on preparation for this exam if you truly think that the specialized high schools are the best fit for your child.
We have a few different options for SHSATS prep, including online private 1:1 tutoring, semi-private sessions and group classes.
SHSAT Group Classes
We offer test prep courses in the winter, spring, summer and fall.
Our courses cover all aspects of the test in an intimate setting where students naturally challenge each other to take it to the next level. We look at every necessary skill set and strategy and then practice, practice, practice.

2021 COURSE CALENDAR
Due to COVID-19, we will be offering all of our test prep courses online for the safety of our staff and students (remote sessions with a live instructor). Students will be provided with a Zoom link prior to class and have the ability to ask questions and interact with the instructor.
ONLINE – SHSAT Skill-Builder
Our SHSAT Skill- class is an introduction to the particularities of the Specialized High School entrance exam. The course is designed for 7th graders who are just beginning their SHSATS prep process. In the Skill-Builder course, our instructors will help students build foundational skills in math, reading comprehension, and grammar, while also introducing test-taking strategies specific to the format of the SHSAT. The course provides a great initiation into what has become a rite of passage for many NYC teenagers, and builds a skill set that is vital not only for this exam, but for success in any of the city’s top high schools.
IMPORTANT NOTE: After registration, please be on the lookout for your order confirmation email. All registered students will need to purchase a test prep book for the course (a link will be provided – book cost $18).
Practice Test: Since we are currently closed for in-person instruction/proctored exams, the practice test for this course will be sent home at the beginning and the end of the class, and students will submit answers electronically.
ONLINE – SHSAT Comprehensive Spring/Fall 2021
The Spring/Fall Comprehensive course is a thirteen-week course that begins in the spring of students’ 7th grade year and extends through the fall of their 8th grade year, concluding right in time for the exam. This course is appropriate for students who are just beginning to prepare as well as for those who took our winter course.
The comprehensive curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation to master the SHSAT. We go beyond the introduction to the material and really zero in on the most challenging content, providing students with repeated opportunities to practice every question type on the test. Students will learn strategies for breaking down complex word problems, identifying answer traps, and managing their time. With a lot of practice and skill-building, we help students learn how to approach this complicated exam and maximize their scores.
Our Comprehensive course includes 3 practice (we will provide the practice dates/details in the detailed welcome email you will receive prior to beginning the course). We will provide students with detailed score reports for each practice test, homework after each class, as well as a summer packet with extra practice and resources so that students may continue prep independently during the summer between the spring and fall semesters.
